Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Project- Low Income States (RWSSP-LIS)
To improve piped water supply in the four States of Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh, the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Project- Low Income States (RWSSP-LIS) is being implemented by Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation with the support of World Bank since June 2014.With a total project cost of Rs. 6174 Crore, this project is planned to be completed by March 2020 and expected to benefit 75 lakh population and 16,933 habitations.
Till date under the Batch-I of the project, 529 Single Village Schemes (SVS) and 22 Multi Village Schemes (MVS) piped water supply schemes are under various stages of completion. Out of these, in 219 no. of SVS and 7 no. of MVS water has been made available to people. Most of these schemes are located in quality affected habitations of the aforesaid States. In Batch-II, 34 District, 984 GPs and 11,015 habitations. 620 SVS and 135 MVS would cover a population of approx. 44 lakh.
To implement this project States have setup decentralized service delivery institutions viz; State Project Management Units at State level, District Project Management Units at District level and Gram Panchayat / Village Water and Sanitation Committees at the village level. Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) and local communities are actively involved in planning, implementation and monitoring of the project.
